The most prestigious sailing event in South Africa starts this weekend. 2019 Lipton Challenge Cup winners Nitro, sailing for Witbank Yacht and Aquatic Club, will defend the Cup on the waters of Langebaan between the 15th and 21st of August.

In 2017 at the 29er World Championship in Long Beach, California, two youngsters stood on a boat holding the South African flag and grinning from ear to ear. Alex Burger and Benji Daniel had just won the World Championships, an astonishing 33 points clear of their nearest rivals. It was an extraordinary achievement and the first South African World Championship victory in the 29er class that would lead them to a Olympic 49er campaign.

The Mykonos Offshore is the most popular sailing event on the Cape Town sailing calendar. Hosted by Club Mykonos, the 2021 edition of the race takes place on 24 and 25 April 2021. To date, 53 entries have been received. Late entries will be accepted till 6pm on 19th April.

2020 marked the 30th anniversary of the Mykonos Offshore Regatta hosted by Royal Cape Yacht Club and Club Mykonos. The 60nm+ long haul saw an amazing 60 entries and although the wind was not playing along on Friday morning, teams had a blast making their way up the beautiful west Coast of the Cape.
