Team RSA put in a good effort at the Optimist World Championships 2021 held at Lake Garda, Italy. Brazilian Alex Di Francesco Kuhl is the new World Champion and French sailor Lomane Valade is the winner in the female ranking.

In 2017 at the 29er World Championship in Long Beach, California, two youngsters stood on a boat holding the South African flag and grinning from ear to ear. Alex Burger and Benji Daniel had just won the World Championships, an astonishing 33 points clear of their nearest rivals. It was an extraordinary achievement and the first South African World Championship victory in the 29er class that would lead them to a Olympic 49er campaign.

South African Matt Whitehead was onboard the Swedish/Dutch joint venture, ‘Childhood 1’ in the Prologue of the Ocean Race Europe. The team managed podium places in all three stages, taking the overall victory. All this in preparation for the Ocean Race Europe, which starts on 29 May.

SA Sailors Benji Daniel and Alex Burger have secured a spot at the Tokyo Olympics in the 49er class for South Africa.
The former 29er world champions beat 129 teams in 2017 to win the title. They were convinced their dream of competing at their first Olympics was over, but the event in which they could qualify finally went ahead last week.

The Easter weekend is always busy with local and National sailing Champs. Two such events were the Hobie 14 and 505 National Champs, which were hosted in one event by Point Yacht Club.
