The Ocean Race Summit Newport gathered over 680 registered participants from around the world to develop and share solutions to restore ocean health. An engaging and diverse group of international experts, youth leaders and change makers came together in the 3rd summit to tackle the challenges facing our ocean, and to develop and share solutions that promote the restoration of ocean health.

Publishing Editor in Chief. Ingrid has been boating since a toddler and sailing since she was 16. She started on Hobie Cats and competed in many National and World Championships. A keen windsurfer too, she moved onto “big boats” in the form of a racing yacht and enjoyed many successful campaigns on a GP42. Her love of all things to do with the ocean led her to Marketing and Communications in the world of sailing, managing 3 x Cape Town Stopovers for the Volvo Ocean race (Puma and Team SCA), and managing the Communications for the GP42 campaign, Lion of Africa Vulcan in the Cape to Rio Yacht Race. She has merged her passion for sailing with her passion for publishing to produce the annual magazine for RCYC SAIL, the SA Nautical Almanac and the South African Ocean Racing Legacy book. Her 25 years of experience in magazine publishing on titles such as Cosmo, Marie Claire, House and Leisure, Elle and Elle Decoration has provided a solid platform to develop Sail + Leisure.

Tracy Edwards was the skipper of the all-female entry Maiden in the 1989/1990 edition of the Whitbread Round the World Race. She was just 24 years old! Tracy and her crew broke barriers, and proved so many people wrong in the male-dominated sport. They weren’t even expected to finish the first leg, but they did just that, and went on to win both southern ocean legs too.

Mangroves are disappearing at an alarming rate, with conservationists across the globe striving to save them from local extinction. Despite their ecological and economic value, mangroves are perishing at least three to five times faster than overall global forests. Half of the world’s mangroves have already been lost over the last 50 years due to human activity such as coastal development and pollution. In a webinar organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat to mark World Mangrove Day, scientists and policy experts discussed how to “unlock” the wealth of mangroves, by regenerating these extraordinary ecosystems.
