We are so amped that the Olympics have started, and that our South African sailing stars start their journey today. But who are they up against and who are the favourites in each class? Watch this snapshot of the ‘who’s who’ to watch in sailing.
South African 49er team
Benji Daniel and Alex Burger begin their campaign today. Of course the top sailors to beat in this class are Emirates Team New Zealand America’s Cup winners Peter Burling and Blair Tuke. But our team has tenacity and talent, winning the 29er Worlds in 2017 as complete outsiders. If they could do that, who knows what they could do here? We have no doubt they will do us proud!

Leo Davis was placed as the top African at the world event held in Europe, winning the opportunity to represent SA at the Olympics in this class. Leo is coached by his father, Greg Davis, who was coach to Ian Ainslee in an Olympic campaign.
