The Superyacht Cup Palma (SYC) is one of our favourite events. And it’s back on. This high level of yacht racing will take place from 23-26 June, the 25th anniversary of the event. The organisors of Europe’s longest-running super yacht regatta will attract a competitive range of entries.

Youtube sailing channels have become our new TV Series. During lockdown we searched for reminders of how “other people” were living their lives while we we were trapped indoors. The sailing blogs became a source of inspiration as they shared dreamy locations and a sense of freedom. They have motivated us to put a plan in motion to go cruising. These are our top 5.

INEOS Team UK are out of the America’s Cup! They fought valiantly but they just couldn’t shake the Challenger of Record, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli. The Italians sailed a flawless regatta and will now meet Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup match. This will be the second time in their 6 attempts that they have made it to the America’s Cup Match itself.

The Vendée Globe 2020 has provided many amazing memories of solo sailors taking on the challenge of sailing around the world alone. Although regulations have prevented the thousand-strong crowds to line the canal welcoming finishers into Les Sable-d’Olonne, the finishes were no less dramatic.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli leads the Prada Cup Final with 4-0. The Finals didn’t quite provide the close and intense racing we were expecting. INEOS Team UK seemed to be on the back foot in all 4 races, and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli took advantage of that.

South Africa is now well represented on World Sailing’s Committees. Philip Baum was elected as a Vice President of the World Sailing Board in late 2020. Now Heidi Burger, Philips Daniels and Hylton Hale have been appointed to prominent and influential committees too. From 2021 to 2024 they will be instrumental in the decision making of the international federation. Each brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise and a love of their sport to the table. We are extremely proud, and grateful for their service. We chat to them to get a sense of what skills have brought them to this point, and to see what they hope to achieve in their roles.
