The Lüderitz Speed Challenge held annually since 2007 in Lüderitz, Namibia takes place on an artificial 1-km-long (0.62-mile-long) strip of water in the middle of the Namib Desert.
The event runs for weeks and gives competitors the chance to take their shot at breaking the speed record on Windsurfers and kite-boards.
The record currently stands at 53knts.
This event is observed by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) and the International Sailing Federation (ISAF).
