The Newport Ocean Sailing Association is happy to announce that the 73rd Newport to Ensenada race will start off the Balboa Pier on April 23, 2021. They’re planning for the historical full fleet sail to Ensenada with courses to San Diego and Dana Point.

It’s been a slow start to the 2021 season, with a few key regattas postponed or even cancelled. But a few events did manage to get off the ground. The RORC Transatlantic Race started in light airs from Lanzerote on Saturday, 9th Jan, and the Vendée Globe continues to thrill as the sailors race their final 5000 miles to the finish.

Tracy Edwards was the skipper of the all-female entry Maiden in the 1989/1990 edition of the Whitbread Round the World Race. She was just 24 years old! Tracy and her crew broke barriers, and proved so many people wrong in the male-dominated sport. They weren’t even expected to finish the first leg, but they did just that, and went on to win both southern ocean legs too.
